CONSERVATION LAB 2015

EXPLORING THE DEBATES AT THE HEART OF AFRICAN CONSERVATION

WORDS BY KATIE PALMER

With statistics announced in the last week revealing that rhino poaching in South Africa in 2014 showed a 21% increase on 2013, it is clear that something – or in fact many things, by many people – must be done to prevent environmental crises such as this gaining more momentum. Perhaps, then, there could be no better time to announce that the second annual Conservation Lab will take place at The Bay Hotel from 9am until 1pm on Monday 4 May.

The Conservation Lab 2015 will invite six thought leaders and industry influencers to address our tribe on the crucial issues of conservation and sustainable development, particularly within the realm of travel. Each will give a 20-minute talk on a powerful initiative or concept that they consider to be an example to follow, with the aim of inspiring further ideas or projects both within our tribe and beyond. This will be followed by a panel discussion between the speakers and a Q&A session with the audience.

The Conservation Lab isn’t about deciding on a right or wrong answer to the conservation question; it’s about open, intelligent idea sharing. It’s about raising awareness and providing a comprehensive overview of the issues and potential solutions, for our tribe to take away and use as they see fit. This is a platform for people (be they speakers or audience members) who care about the future of Africa’s natural environment – and who recognise that the very future of our industry relies on us protecting it.

Stay tuned for speaker announcements in the run-up to the show, along with details on how to participate. Believe us, you won’t want to miss it.
